Whitemill is now open for the summer

According to the National Trust Handbook for 2017, the mill will be open from 25-March-2017 to 29-October-2017
Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holiday Mondays
12:00 'til 17:00 (Last tour about 16:00)

A tour of the mill will typically last for 40 to 45 minutes - though there are no set times.

By National Trust standards, Whitemill is a small property and lacks the usual array of visitor facilities.
We have no toilets, no tea room and no gift shop - though we can sell you a guide book.

We do however offer a warm welcome to anyone who shares our interest in the mill.

The interior of the mill is shown by guided tour only.

Numbers within the building are restricted for safety reasons.

Wheelchair access (by ramp) is possible to much of the ground floor.

Early and late in the season, the interior of the mill can be both dark and cold. Warm socks are recommended.

Many visitors to Whitemill find us entirely by accident (normally whilst en-route to the much better publicised Kingston Lacy House) and only learn of our existence as they drive past the gate and see the National Trust signs.

Whitemill can be found about a mile to the east of Sturminster Marshall on an unclassified road linking the A350 with the B3082.
The B3082 itself is the famous Kingston Lacy Beech Avenue.

Whitemill is not easily reached by public transport, most of our visitors arrive by car though a few hardy souls do come by bike (in one case all the way from Cornwall).

Arriving by Car

From the north, make your way down the A350 to Sturminster Marshall and turn left at the crossroads (signposted Shapwick).

From the east or west you'll probably be coming along the A31, so turn north up the A350 and turn right at the crossroads (signposted Shapwick).

Now follow the road through the village, past the church, and then for about a mile out the other side. As you crest the bridge over the river you can see the mill on your left. Please be very careful on the bridge as it is a blind summit.

Alternatively, if you're coming from the Wimborne direction (perhaps after visiting Kingston Lacy House) or down from Blandford make your way onto the B3082 Wimborne to Blandford road and turn left when you see signposts for Sturminster Marshall. Follow that road all the way down to the end, turn left and then left again to get to the car park.

The car park is about 100m north of the mill.
Disabled parking for one car is available right outside the mill gate.
